The ginger plant has a thick, branched rhizome (underground stem) with a brown outerlayer and yellow centre that has a spicy, citrusyaroma.Every year, it grows pseudostems (false stems made of tightlywrapped leaf bases) from the rhizome which bear narrowleaves.
